The Dussehra Festival is held in October or early November each year. At this time Raghunathji (Lord Rama), the presiding Deity of the Kullu Valley, is brought from the Raghunath Temple to Dhalpur Maidan in Kullu. There are around 360 village devtas (gods) and they are carried down from each village to Kullu to pay homage to Lord Raghunathji and to attend the assembly of the gods. The festival celebrates the victory of good over evil, when Lord Rama defeated Ravana the demon king of Lanka. Here the local residents are in the Vashisht temple precinct waiting to accompany the murti of Vashisht who was one of the Saptarishis (seven great sages) and guru (spiritual master) of Lord Rama,to join the other gods in Kullu for the celebrations.
